Trump warns Iran as US-Iran tensions flare over Strait of Hormuz clashes

US President Donald Trump has said American forces caused “great damage” to Iranian targets following reported exchanges of fire involving US naval destroyers and Iranian forces, while also indicating that Washington remains open to a diplomatic deal with Tehran.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that three US Navy destroyers came under fire but said there was no damage to the American vessels. He added that US forces had inflicted significant damage on the attackers, using strong language to warn that any future escalation would be met with an even more forceful response if Iran does not move quickly toward a negotiated agreement.
The remarks came amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region following renewed clashes near the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil and gas.

Iran’s central military command, the Khatam Al Anbiya headquarters, accused the United States of violating a ceasefire agreement, claiming US forces targeted Iranian vessels in and around the strategic waterway. According to Iranian state media, an Iranian oil tanker was struck while travelling from coastal waters near Jask toward the Strait of Hormuz, along with another vessel entering the strait near the UAE port of Fujairah.
Iranian authorities also alleged that US strikes were carried out in coordination with regional partners, though no further details were provided.
In response, Iranian forces reportedly launched retaliatory attacks against US naval vessels operating in the region. The situation has further escalated concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
Despite the exchange of attacks, Trump reiterated that he remains open to reaching a deal with Iran, although he warned that failure to agree quickly could result in stronger military action.
The developments come at a time of already fragile regional tensions, with ongoing diplomatic efforts struggling to prevent further escalation between the two countries.
